Help:
How to Search: Bluebook allows the user to navigate easily between faculty information, course information and departmental information. Bluebook is searchable by course subject, faculty name, academic department or keyword. The keyword field will allow you to search course titles and descriptions using one search term at a time.
To initiate a search, select the desired radio button. Type in the term you would like to search in the search field or use the drop-down arrow, if available. Lastly, click the Search button to generate results.
How to Navigate: Links are underlined in Bluebook so that the user knows they are clickable. The underlined blue links generate more results or act as a filter.
For example, a search for the Accounting (ACC) course subject will generate a list of all of the Accounting courses. You can then click on the title of the course (i.e. “Foundations of Accounting”) to get a list of all the courses with that course title. You may also click on a faculty name to access faculty information, such as the courses they are teaching or have taught, their CV/vita and other relevant information. Faculty names cannot be changed in Bluebook.
To get back to the homepage, click the home tab at the top of each page.
About:
About Bluebook: Bluebook is an application designed to help the public (with a focus on students and their parents) easily find integrated information about UTSA courses and faculty. Bluebook is the place to look for course titles, descriptions, syllabi, textbook requirements, faculty vitae, work-study opportunities and evaluation results for courses and instructors.
The impetus for Bluebook is the Texas House Bill 2504, which requires certain course information to be made available online, three clicks from the UTSA homepage, keyword searchable and with no login or registration required.
Our goal was to design an application which would not only comply with the Texas House Bill, but also exceed the requirements by placing high emphasis on usability and user experience.
Bluebook launched on October 22, 2010. Bluebook Beta was released on August 26, 2010. The current revision,
release 2.4, was published on
August 25, 2020.
About Syllabi:
Students should refer to the syllabi they receive from their instructor. Syllabi posted in Bluebook are for reference purposes only.
Fields labeled “n/a” reflect items that are not available at this time. Syllabi are uploaded individually by faculty members. If a syllabus is not available, please check back at a later date.
Fields labeled “n/r” reflect courses that may not have formal syllabi such as an independent study or thesis courses.
About Instructor and Course Evaluations:
Course Evaluation: Classes that meet certain criteria are evaluated during the last two weeks of the term. One of the questions on all UTSA Course evaluations allows students to rate the class on a scale from 1 to 5. The number displayed in Bluebook is an average of all submitted responses for that question. Fields labeled “n/a” reflect that there was no evaluation data available.
Instructor Evaluation: Classes that meet certain criteria are evaluated during the last two weeks of the term. One of the questions on all UTSA Course evaluations allows students to rate the teaching of that class on a scale of 1 to 5. The number displayed in Bluebook is an average of all submitted responses for that question. Fields labeled “n/a” reflect that there was no evaluation data available.
Overall Evaluation for Courses: The value displayed as the overall evaluation score is the average for all courses with the same title for the past 5 years of data (if available). Fields labeled “n/a” reflect that there was no evaluation data available.
Faculty Vitae Information:
Faculty vitae are automatically generated from information provided in the Digital Measures system and will be refreshed on a periodic basis.
Bluebook was developed and is maintained by the UTSA Enterprise Application and Data Solutions (EADS).
